SUMMARY
This Technical Note describes the installation of
Health-Minder on a computer running the Windows operating system. This version of
Health-Minder is a 16-bit application which will run under Windows 3.1, Windows 95, or
Windows NT. Your computer must be an IBM-compatible 486 or higher with at least 8
megabytes of RAM and 11 megabytes of disk space. Although Health-Minder is the same
for all Windows versions, the installation program is not. Please download the
appropriate files for your operating system.
You may choose to install directly from our download page,
or you may download a file and install Health-Minder yourself. If you choose the
automatic installation, you will need to choose different options depending on whether you
are using a Netscape browser or an Internet Explorer browser. Users of all other
browsers should download the appropriate file and install manually. If, during
automatic installation, you lose your connection to the Internet, simply reconnect and
select the appropriate file again. Installation will proceed from where it was
interrupted.

PROCEDURE
During installation you will be asked:
Where on your computer to install
Health-Minder. By default, Health-Minder will be installed on the path
C:\hminder. If this is NOT where you want
Health-Minder to reside on your computer, use the above format to enter the path
where you do want it installed. If you have previously installed Health-Minder, the path
shown will be the path where it currently resides on your computer. The installation
program will never overwrite a previously installed Health-Minder database, because doing
so would erase all the information you have entered there. The database is found as
a subdirectory called "base" of the hminder directory. So, by default, if
Health-Minder resides on the path C:\hminder, the database files are
located in: C:\hminder\base. Where on your computer to install

Health-Minder installation program can edit your this file for you and make these changes.
It will not change your config.sys file unless necessary, and neither will
it make changes to the file if you say "NO" to the question about changing this
file. But, then, you must or Health-Minder will not run properly. If you make any
changes to your config.sys file, be sure to reboot your computer for these

Resolution of your monitor's display
During installation, Health-Minder makes a change to your win.ini file which controls the
display of Health-Minder windows Health-Minder uses information about the resolution of
your display monitor to modify your win.ini file by adding a section like this:

your display monitor to modify your win.ini file by adding a section like this:
[ASPECT]
InchesHigh = 8.5
InchesWide = 10.25
Should you ever change the resolution of your display, you
will need to make changes to the win.ini file to match the new resolution. You will need
to know the resolution of your screens display. If you are using Windows 3.1, run
Windows Setup and look at the values for DISPLAY. If you are using Windows
95 or Windows NT, look at the Display Settings on the Control Panel. Either
of these shows you: the current values of your displays resolution. For example, it
shows you: Display: 640x480x256 the resolution is 640x480 (the 256 refers to the
number of colors your display can show). Choose the Health-Minder option from the
following table that most closely matches your resolution.

If you find that the windows in Health-Minder are too
large for your display, edit the win.ini file (found in your windows directory, usually C:\Windows),
and DECREASE the inches high and/or wide. If, on the other hand, you find that the windows
in Health-Minder are too small, and that the pushbuttons, text and other items in the
windows are crowded and overlapping each other, edit the win.ini file and INCREASE the
inches high and wide in the ASPECT section. If you change the resolution of your
display, you will need to change both of these two values in the win.ini file.
|
| If you edit and change your win.ini file, be
sure to restart Windows before you use Health-Minder to have these changes take effect.
Once your win.ini file has the InchesHigh and InchesWide
lines, the Health-Minder installation program will not modify or overwrite
them if you re-install Health-Minder. |
| If this is the first time you are installing
Health-Minder, the installation program creates an icon that will appear within the Health-Minder
Group window. |
